Privacy notice

What information Crossbench handles, why, and your rights. In short: no accounts, no tracking, no advertising.

1. The short version

You can use Crossbench without an account and without telling us anything about yourself. Crossbench has no advertising, no tracking and no analytics, and we never sell or share your information.

2. Who is responsible

Crossbench is based in the UK. Crossbench is responsible for any personal information Crossbench handles (the “data controller”). Contact: [email protected].

3. When you visit the site

Crossbench is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare’s servers receive technical information that your browser sends when you open a page, such as your IP address, the type of browser you use and the page you asked for. Cloudflare uses this to deliver pages and to protect the site from attacks. Crossbench itself does not keep a record of who visits.

4. Cookies

Crossbench sets no cookies for visitors and stores nothing on your device. The only cookies on crossbench.org.uk belong to Cloudflare Access, which the editor uses to sign in to the site’s private editing area; they are never set for anyone reading the site. If we ever add anything else, such as visitor statistics, we will update this notice first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

5. If you email us

If you email [email protected], we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. Messages are forwarded by Cloudflare to the editor’s email inbox, which is provided by Proton. We use your message only to reply to you and to fix anything you report, and we delete it after 12 months unless we need it for longer to deal with your request.

6. Why we are allowed to use it

The law calls our reason “legitimate interests”: running a secure website, replying to messages, and correcting errors people report. We use the least information we can for these purposes, and you can object at any time.

7. Children and young people

Most people who use Crossbench are aged 16 to 18. The site is designed so that you don’t have to share anything about yourself to use it: there are no accounts, profiles, tracking or advertising. If you are under 18 and email us, we use your message only to reply to you.

8. Who else handles it

We do not sell your information or give it to anyone else. Cloudflare (which hosts the site, protects it and forwards email) and Proton (the editor’s inbox) handle information on our behalf. Crossbench’s content is stored with GitHub, which holds no information about visitors.

9. Outside the UK

Cloudflare and Proton may handle information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

10. How long it is kept

Crossbench keeps no visitor logs. Cloudflare keeps its own technical logs for a limited period, as set out in its privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. Emails are kept as described above.

11. Your rights

You can ask for a copy of any information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email [email protected]. We will reply within one month.

12. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

13. Changes to this notice

We will update this notice if anything changes, for example if Crossbench ever introduces accounts. Last updated: 6 November 2026.
